nowadays many patients want to replace amalgam fillings with composite.

i would counsel them not to go ahead with it if the fillings are satisfactory. most patients will accept ur counsel. however for cosmetic reasons pts want a change in teh filling u cud go ahead with it. Take an IOPA to see secondary caried. Check with a sharp explorer the margins of the fillling for leakages.

if u feel the filling is leaky warn the patient. at times such cases turn into endo

The problem is that shrinkage is the most common with composite fillings that leads to post operative sensitivity…so if the fillings are replaced and later the patient complains of sensitivity and then ultimately patient is unhappy and probably regretting his decision of asking for changing the fillings

if the technique is proper then there is no sensitivity after compsite fillings. sensitivity after compsoite fillings is due to some flaw in the technique
