    Scrub technique advised
    – Normally the Scrubbing technique is advised for very young children
    – Brush for at least 2 minutes
    – Always use tooth brush with soft bristles and fluoridated, flavored toothpaste
    – A tooth brush with hard bristles can cause gum recession(i.e they will recede and move backward) and if used with an abrasive toothpaste, can cause tooth abrasion(loss of tooth substance)

    Bass Technique advised.
    -Children 10-15 years:
    – Directly push the filaments toward roots of teeth at 45 degree angle, press lightly but not enough to bend filaments of brush and gently, brush forward and backward in short vibratory movement, attempting to press into gums margin
-Brush for at least 3 minutes
-Use soft toothbrush with fluoridated toothpaste
Adults: Soft or medium toothbrush & fluoridated paste.Several techniques can be used
    Modified bass technique:
-Add circular movement which will cover gum as well as tooth surface. It massages the gums, which prevent the gum recession.

    Super Floss (thick floss)
Pre-cut floss attached to a foam head, super floss works like regular floss, but the thick head is designed to clean under dental restorative work such as bridges, crowns, implants or braces. It can be useful for people with wide teeth gaps or for targeting specific areas, but can be too thick for general use.

Advantages Effective around dental work; dual flossing and cleaning action.

    Disadvantages Requires dexterity; fiddly.

Levi Spear Parmly, a dentist from New Orleans, is credited with inventing the first form of dental floss. He recommended that people should clean their teeth with silk floss in 1815.[1]
Dental floss was still unavailable to the consumer until the Codman and Shurtleft company started producing human-usable unwaxed silk floss in 1882. In 1898, the Johnson & Johnson Corporation received the first patent for dental floss. Other early brands included Red Cross, Salter Sill Co. and Brunswick.
A character is depicted using dental floss in James Joyce’s famous novel Ulysses (serialised 1918-1920) – an early mention of the practice in literary fiction.
The adoption of floss was poor before World War II. It was around this time, however, that Dr. Charles C. Bass developed nylon floss. Nylon floss was found to be better than silk because of its greater abrasion resistance and elasticity. In response to environmental concerns, dental floss made from biodegradable materials is now available.
Dentists and dental hygienists urge the daily oral hygiene regimen of toothbrushing and flossing. Nearly all Americans brush their teeth. However, studies have found that only 10 to 40% of people report flossing on a daily basis.[2]
