Ever wondered what material, read chemicals, your dentist uses for filling that hole in your tooth or fixing a crown. Well, even your dentist may not know that. There is no guarantee on the quality of material that is being stuffed in your mouth with a promise to hold good for years while these products, unlike even the cotton used in hospitals, are not certified under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
A dentist who spoke to TOI shared his experience of a tooth filling he had done.
"I had promised the patient that the filling will hold good for a decade. However, he came back with a bad tooth ache within a month. On checking, I realized that the entire filling had become loose, food particles had leaked in, leading to an infection. The tooth itself had to be removed. By the end of the treatment, I realized that I have lost not just one patient but almost in his circle."
